Earlier today (Tuesday) in this space, based on information from Fargo police, the Fuzz reported that a 23-year-old Fargo man who allegedly entered a hotel room that wasn’t his and spooked the female guest inside at Fargo’s Doublewood Inn was tailed to a gas station by hotel security and tackled. However, the security firm for the hotel says it was the woman’s boyfriend, not their staff, who chased down the suspect.

Police responded at 2:42 a.m. and arrested the suspect on suspicion of criminal trespassing. Turns out he wasn’t staying at the hotel but had been walking around the pool area and allegedly entered the woman’s room through her unlocked, poolside sliding glass door, Sgt. Mark Lykken said.

The woman told police she’d been waiting for her boyfriend to get to the room, Lykken said. When the stranger entered, she left the room and notified security.

Unfortunately, the new dispatch system  still isn’t kicking out a detailed daily briefing of police calls (which makes us that much more reliant on what police will tell us; see previous post), so this is all you get.

The Morning Fuzz has been in stall mode this week as we wait for the kinks to be worked out of the metro area’s new dispatch system.

The Red River Regional Dispatch Center and area law enforcement and fire departments began using the new Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System (CAD/RMS) on Sunday.

As it stands now, we’re not getting the twice-daily police blotter that would normally be e-mailed to us.

Officials tell us they’re working on it, and understandably their higher priority is making sure police, firefighters and ambulance crews can do their jobs unencumbered by the new dispatch system. (Not that that makes it any less frustrating for us. We’ve also got a job to do, and we serve the public in our own way.)

In the meantime, the dispatch information available on the web has a new location at http://www.rrrdc.com/dispatchlogs.html.

You’ll notice there’s not a lot of detail. That makes it tough for us to know which calls to inquire about, but we’re doing our best not to let anything newsworthy slip through the cracks.

Hopefully this will all be resolved soon and things can get back to normal. The Fuzz is getting restless.

The same day a federal ban on five substances found in synthetic marijuana went into effect, Fargo police say a 22-year-old woman had to seek medical treatment after smoking what was believed to be synthetic marijuana. Lt. Pat Claus said the people involved told police they obtained the substance and paraphernalia in Moorhead (where it’s legal to buy and sell) and smoked it there, then came to Fargo (where the state has outlawed sale and possession of synthetic pot). Police found some of the drug and paraphernalia and are investigating for potential charges of possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, Claus said.

In this apparent case of mistaken location, Dilworth Police Chief Dave Miller says three men showed up at this caller’s apartment and knocked on his door, then left and came back and knocked on it again, looking for someone the tenant didn’t know. One of the strangers barged past the tenant and went through his apartment looking the person. When the men realized it was the wrong apartment, they left. A police dog wasn’t able to track them down, and there’s no description of their vehicle, Miller said, adding police are trying to figure out who they were looking for.

Some alert neighbors in north Fargo tipped off police to a teenage boy trying to break into a house late Sunday. Sgt. Mark Lykken says it doesn’t appear the 15-year-old gained access to the house. When police arrived, they found the teen in a car that wasn’t his and later learned he had taken the car without permission, Lykken said. Police arrested the teen on suspicion of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and brought him home.

A 24-year-old woman who got her vehicle stuck in a snow bank in Fargo late Thursday was arrested on suspicion of inhaling volatile chemicals after police observed her with a can of dust remover in her hand, Sgt. Police arrested a 26-year-old Fargo man for disorderly conduct after a tenant in his apartment building reported that he was kicking and pounding on her door so hard she thought he was going to break the door down. Police said the man thought there was a party going on in the apartment and wanted to join the party. Alcohol appeared to be a factor in the incident, police said.
